Natural Hair Rules: 7 Commandments Every Curly Girl Needs To Follow

natural hair rules

Ever catch yourself look at girls with enviable poker straight hair and wonder what a ball of fuzz your curly hair is? Fret not! Hereís a detailed guide on how to unlock those dread locks and transform into a goddess with a curly and bouncy gorgeous mane and ingredients to use to pamper your lustrous locks.

Oiling your hair before washing it has proved to be a great conditioner. Curly hair responds very well to jojoba and olive oil.

Deep conditioning always helps cases of unmanageable frizzy hair. In emergency situations, when you have to head out for a hot date or that fancy evening soiree, the best thing to do to control your curly hair would be deep conditioning. Find a protein conditioner that suits you and apply a dime size dollop into your hands and massage into your scalp. This keeps it soft and shiny for the rest of the day and also adds an extra texture to your mane. Natural conditioners like shea butter are very safe to use.

Most curly haired girls are conscious about their texture and often resort to styling methods to straighten out their hair and hide that uneven curly and wavy texture. These methods involve heating tools such as flat irons and clampers. You might want to ditch them as heating your curly hair will only make it weak from the roots and brittle in texture, thereby making your hair look like a frizzy mess.

In a hot weather, it is best to use mild shampoos and not ones that have strong chemicals that damage your hair. In case of too much humidity, when you sweat and you feel like washing your hair every day after a long day at work, use baby shampoo. The strong chemicals in regular shampoo makes curly hair all the more difficult to maintain stripping it from its natural oils from the scalp and with an extra frizz added to your hair. Using a mild shampoo for everyday use or in cases when you want to wash your hair more than the regular thrice a week regime, will make it soft and moisturized.

Split with the dead ends. Going to a hair salon and getting a short trim and cutting your split ends will enable your curly hair to grow stronger and make it look luscious and bouncy rather than rough and erratic.

Always use a wide toothed comb. This is not the eighties. You do not want an afro on your head and you know you have to detangle your hair ASAP! But how will you, with your hair getting stuck in those tiny bristles of that comb? So unless you want to indulge in an arm wrestle by yanking your brush out of your hair, detangle your hair with your fingers and a wide toothed comb and use this comb every day to brush your hair.

Applying salon products like hair serums and hair mousse while proving to be helpful could be very tricky to use. You do not want your hair dripping with greasiness for someone to be able soak it with a paper towel. Use hair products with great care and always scrunch them into your curls. Do not layer it all over your hair into a greasy lump. Honey with a tea spoon of milk gives a nice bounce just like a hair product would

And last but not the least, love yourself including those curls. Being confident is the best gift you could give your hair and yourself. You are unique and beautiful that way. Stay gorgeous.

Natural Products, Natural Hair.

Coconut Oil for Natural Hair. Afro Hair. Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil Hair Treatment

Nature provides so many natural elements which we can use to create luxurious natural hair care products. Coconuts are one of those elements which have been long-loved for their amazing power to beautify skin and hair.

Coconut oil is one of the top natural ingredients used today to make nourishing shampoos and conditioners. Products that include coconut oil have the power to transform dry or damaged hair with a naturally deep conditioning effect.

Natural ingredients also provide an extra boost by infusing hair strands with the nourishment they need to grow.

                       BREAKAGE PREVENTION

Scientific research shows us just why coconut oil is one of the most sought after ingredients in natural hair care products. Two recent studies demonstrated that daily application of coconut oil has positive results on any hair type, including curly hair and afro hair types.

Using a daily moisturizer that contains coconut oil will provide your natural hair with all the luxurious moisture possible leading to less overall breakage. Best of all, your hair will be less likely to break when combed because it is moisturized and pliable. Little to no breakage when combing is what every curly girl wants. Long term use of coconut based products can help you grow your curly tresses longer by preventing breakage and split ends and helping hair retain moisture.

              Natural Hair Moisturisers

One of the best aspects of coconut oil as part of an afro hair care or curly hair care routine is that it acts as a dual moisturizer.

Firstly, it is one of the only oils that can penetrate deep within the hair shaft to provide moisture from the inside out, which is exactly why coconut oil is one of the main ingredients in our Coco Curly Conditioner.

Second, it coats and smoothes the cuticle, sealing the moisture inside of the strand. Your curly hair will be more pliable and softer to the touch, as well as have an amazing sheen.

After just one week of using a coconut oil based moisturizer for your natural hair and scalp the difference will show. A conditioner reinforced with the richness of real coconut oil that is gentle enough to use every day will prevent split ends and make your hair softer and more manageable. The result is overall improved texture, improved appearance and smoother curls.

Porous Hair? What’s That!

 Hair porosity

Have you ever felt like no matter how many times you washed, conditioned, shampooed, moisturized, trimmed and oiled deep treated your hair it still remained dry and lifeless?

Then you’ve probably experienced porous hair!

Hair porosity is caused by damage to the hair’s cuticle which causes hair to split and eventually break.

There are several reasons for hair porosity but the 3 most common are:

Excessive amounts of heat.

This is a common culprit. Heat over around 150 degrees Celsius can damage the hair permanently! If you’re going to apply heat do so minimally and keep your hair straightener on a low heat setting.

Bad and/or excessive chemical processing.

Chemical processing can literally ruin your hair so it’s always advisable to be careful.

These days many products claim to straighten your hair ‘naturally’ but in most cases, those products mislead customers.

When using any chemical straightening or coloring product, always be cautious and do your research.

Dryness

Dryness can happen for several reasons including the two points mentioned above.

If you’re ever wondering why your hair is dry, think why does a plant leaf dry out and die? Because it lacks water.

Despite that many of us have been taught by our mothers, aunts, cousins etc to avoid wetting afro or curly hair too often, water actually helps our hair by providing it with moisture.
