Hot Hair Fixes: 4 Quick Ways To Cure Damaged Hair

quick hair fixes

As we nearer further and further into the summer, many of us experience damaged hair. Hair damage can take various forms including split ends, single strand knots, hair thinning, frizz and even traction alopecia.

Hair damage can also be particularly frustrating for those of us with curly, kinky and afro textured hair because our hair is dryer and therefore tends to be more prone to breakage.

However, most types of hair damage can be cured. Here are 4 of the best ways to cure your damaged curls.

Use the best conditioner for your hair type and texture. You know your hair best and you therefore know what products on your hair. In order to find the best conditioner you do have to experiment a little by testing different products on your hair. Once you find a great conditioner that really nourishes your hair, hold onto it and make it your go-to co-washing product.

Focus on protection. If you have split ends, lots of single strand knots or hair breakage then there’s a possibility that you’ve been over-manipulating your hair. To reverse the damage done it’s best to keep your hair protected. That might mean parting with your favourite hairstyles (like braids or weaves) and instead, focus on wearing your hair in simple styles that elevate the hair away from the shoulders. Good options for protective styling are ponytails, high buns and twists. Wear your hair in protective styles until it’s in better condition.

Don’t towel dry your hair.  Towels and curly/afro hair don’t mix. If you need to dry your hair use a cotton t-shirt because it’s softer, reduces frizz levels and won’t cause your hair to rip or tear. Put simply, cotton t-shirts are amazing for drying natural hair.

Get your hair back to tip top shape. The best way to do this is to make sure you are deep conditioning your hair at least once every 2 weeks until your hair is restored to good health. Make sure you use a good deep conditioning treatment or hair mask that contains natural ingredients, is silicone free and contains good proteins.

Damaged Hair? 4 Easy Things You Can Do Today To Help It Heal

Has your hair ever felt icky to touch or you have noticed that it is difficult to style the way that you like? If so, then it’s definitely time for a quick fix!

Plenty of people find that their hair becomes damaged over time, and if you are looking for something that can fix your hair up very quickly, check out some of these important tips.

Some of these tips work immediately, while some of them need to be repeated several times before they reach their full effect. However, you will find that a little bit of instant hair relief may provide you with the look that you need!

Oil Your Hair

If you have always fought against oily hair, you may find that this is counter-intuitive in the extreme! However, hair needs oil or it will look dead and dry.

To oil your hair, use any natural oil, like coconut oil, almond oil or sunflower oil. Take a small amount of the oil and rub it on your fingers until your fingers are slick and shiny. Then brush your fingers through your hair, coating the strands completely and paying special attention to the ends, where breakage is most damaging.

Let the oil sit in your hair for 20 minutes, and then shampoo as you normally would. The oil smoothes down your hair cuticle and leaves your hair slick and shiny.

Egg Your Hair

Eggs have natural proteins and nutrients that are very good for your hair.

When you really feel like pampering your hair, separate an egg yolk from the white and pour the yolk into a bowl. Add a teaspoon of olive oil to the bowl and whisk it until it is frothy. Take this mixture to the shower, and wash your hair as you normally would.

Apply the mixture to your hair using your fingers, and let it sit for five minutes. After that, rinse out your hair using cool water. This is a great way to keep your hair looking and feeling great.

Pick Up a Silk Pillowcase

As we sleep, we roll around, and as we do so, we damage our hair. Coarse cotton or polyester pillowcases snag the cuticle of the hair, causing it to raise and rip.

This leaves hair looking tangled and unpleasant in the morning. If you are tired of hair damage that occurs when you sleep, take a moment to purchase a silk pillowcase.

If you don’t want to buy a silk pillowcase, buy a silk nightcap, which also protects your hair. Silk is very slippery and it will not snag your hair at all.

Beat the Heat

One of the worst things that you can do to your hair is to dry it with heat.

While heat dries your hair very quickly, it also damages the shaft and makes your hair more brittle. If you usually use a hairdryer, skip it for a few days or even let it go entirely.

While your hair is wet, braid it so that you will get lovely curls when it dries. When you go to dry your hair with a towel, use the towel to squeeze it out rather than rubbing the hair.

When you want your hair to look great, consider these four important tips that you can try today!
